Mr. Donald Fred Shipp, Sr., age 83, of Temple passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023. He was born in Dallas on September 8, 1940. Mr. Shipp was the son of the late, Fred Fletcher Shipp and the late, Virgie Mae (Jarman) Shipp. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shipp is preceded in death by one son, Donald “Bubba” Fred Shipp, Jr. and by his brother, Larry Leon Shipp.
Mr. Shipp was a 1959 graduate of Dallas High School. He later attended two years of Law School and pursued his political ambitions, running for the State House of Representatives and for the office of Mayor of Powder Springs. He was a successful, retired entrepreneur in real estate and construction. Mr. Shipp was passionate about “his baby” his candy apple red MG Midget, playing bluegrass music on his banjo, and enjoyed a nice cigar from time to time. His smile, laughter, wonderful sense of humor, compassion, and gentle thoughtful spirit toward others always enriched the lives of those who knew him. He was also a very proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous and sponsored many along their sobriety journey. Don was greatly loved and adored. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Marie (Rose) Shipp of Temple; his son, Justin Shipp of Temple; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Donna and Richard Tempelman of Dallas, Shelley and Donald Hearing of Dallas, Carla Shipp of Temple, and April Shipp of Temple; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Manya and Ken Adams of Gainesville, Sylvia and Tommy Thompson of Douglasville, Mary Dean and Jim Greer of Acworth, and Carolyn Ward of Douglasville; his grandchildren, Lyndsey, Troy, Morgan, Gatlin, Will, and Xander; his great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Harper, Judson, Cora, and a number of other relatives.
In accordance with the family’s arrangements, Mr. Shipp will be cremated.
The family plans to hold a Celebration of Life at a later date.
