Mr. Charles Richard Marsh, Sr., age 89, of Temple, peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026. Born on October 3, 1936, in Cleveland, Alabama, Charles was the beloved son of the late Arlin B. Marsh and Delores O. Jones. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Ann (Spivey) Marsh, and by one son, Charles Richard “Ricky” Marsh, Jr.

He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, where he earned both the National Defense Service Medal and the Naval Occupational Medal. After his military service, Charles applied his skills working with Campbell Decorating Company, specializing in wallpaper hanging and painting. Together with his beloved wife, Betty Ann (Spivey) Marsh, he owned and operated Bremen Variety and Thrift for over two decades. Charles had a passion for the outdoors, especially tending to his garden, where he grew a wide variety of fruits and vegetables including tomatoes, squash, beans, peppers, and his favorite, watermelons. He was also an avid collector of various items and enjoyed fishing by the lake near his home. Above all, Charles cherished his family and treasured the time spent with them. A Christian by faith, Charles rededicated his life to Jesus Christ, reflecting the faith that guided him throughout his life.

Charles is lovingly remembered by his son, Randy Marsh of Temple; daughters Renee Martin of Collins, and Pamela and Joe Bowden of Temple; daughter-in-law Michele Marsh of Temple; and his sister, Myra Ann Todd of Stockbridge. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, his niece Glenda Manor, and numerous other relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 2 P.M. at Hutcheson-Croft Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Lemmings officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, prior to the service, from 12 P.M. until the funeral hour.

In accordance with Mr. Marsh’s wishes, he will be cremated following the funeral service.
