Mrs. Cheryl Lynn (Kenny) Wanke, age 80, of Carrollton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 19, 2026. She was born in Queens, New York on May 3, 1945. Cheryl was the beloved daughter of the late Lewis Kenny and Louis (Hammersley) Kenny. She was preceded in death by her cherished husband, William “Bill” Thomas Wanke, and her brother, Richard Kenny.
Cheryl wasn’t only a loving, understanding, and giving Mom, - she became a friend who always knew when to advise, when to listen, and when to offer a shoulder to cry on, all with unconditional support and love. Cheryl was an amazing and encouraging Grandmother and friend who only wanted the best for those she loved. Cheryl was a fun, creative artist who loved to share and teach her love of art. Those who met her felt an immediate connection whether it was brief or bloomed into a friendship. Her presence was a gift and she will be deeply missed. Our only joy is knowing she is finally reunited with Bill, the love of her life.
She is lovingly survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Lana Wanke of Saginaw, Texas; her daughter, Janine Johnston of Carrollton; her sister and brother-in-law, Erdine and John Marshal of Bohemia, New York; and by her grandchildren, Danielle Lockett and her husband Quincy, Dylan Wanke, Ethan Wanke, Bethany Johnston, Gabriel Johnston, Daniel Johnston; Cheryl is also survived by her best friend Sera Dunn along with numerous other relatives who will cherish her memory.
Mrs. Wanke’s life was a beautiful expression of love, creativity, and devotion to her family. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
In accordance with Mrs. Wanke’s arrangements, she will be cremated.
