Ms. Cordie Mae (Davis) Johnson, age 88, of Whitesburg passed away on Friday, September 5, 2025. She was born in Tyrone, GA, on May 25, 1937. She was the daughter of the late William F. Davis and the late Cordia Hill. In addition to her parents, Ms. Johnson is preceded in death by her daughter, Lillie Mae Cannon; her sister Barbara Ann Davis, and by one grandson, Paul Joshua Costley.
Cordie Mae, as all who knew and loved her called her, was a devoted and adoring mother and grandmother, and she was fiercely loyal to those she cared about. Throughout her entire life, she was a hard worker to support herself and family, but she also loved to have fun and adventures.
In her younger days, she could be easily sighted fishing, strumming a guitar chord, or taking her grandchildren to car races and “wrastling” matches. In her later years, she loved to play cards with her friends, travel with her daughter, eat southern fried food, and visit with her family. Whatever life threw her way, her personality shone through in her unwavering determination and the shrewd wit and sense of humor worthy of a strong-hearted, red-headed daughter of the south.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Perry Hand, sister, Lindy Elkins of Franklin, and her three grandchildren: Robert “Buddy” Costley, Brandy Moody, and Nicole Hand. Ms. Johnson is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives who will carry her legacy forward.
In accordance with Ms. Johnson’s wishes, she will be cremated.
