Mr. Doyle Napoleon Tanner, age 90, of Temple passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024. He was born in New Madrid, Missouri on March 2, 1933. Mr. Tanner was the son of the late, Simon Tanner and the late, Nellie (Price) Tanner. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tanner is preceded in death by his son, Christopher Doyle Tanner; five brothers, Billy Tanner, Leon Tanner, Sammy Tanner, Freddy Tanner, and Gary Tanner; and by his sisters, Helen Parker, Barbara Superco, Marie Harralston, and Reba Adkins.
Mr. Tanner served in the United States Army as a Ranger Sharpshooter in the 1st Division, nicknamed “The Big Red One”. Following his service in the Military, Doyle would go on to work for the New Madrid City Light Plant and then became a Journeyman Electrician with Associated Electric for many years. Mr. Tanner was a member of Riverbend Pentecostals in New Madrid before moving to Atlanta, where he became a member of Atlanta West Pentecostal Church in Lithia Springs. Mr. Tanner also served as the Color Guard Commander at the New Madrid American Legion Post 595 and as Sergeant at Arms at the Villa Rica American Legion Post 70.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Purser) Tanner of Temple; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Fred Pollard of Canada and Cassandra and Jeff Patton of Temple; his daughter-in-law, Marylyn Tanner of Oran, Missouri; his brother and sister-in-law, Jackie and Lila Tanner of New Madrid, Missouri; his granddaughter, Tannah Rose Patton. Mr. Tanner is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and a number of other relatives.
The family will receive friends at Atlanta West Pentecostal Church in Lithia Springs on Thursday, January 18, 2024, from 6 P.M. (EST) until 8 P.M. (EST).
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 12 Noon (CST) at Riverbend Pentecostals Church in New Madrid, Missouri with Pastor G.L. Keen, Pastor Darrell Johns, and Rev. Vernon Purser officiating.
Interment with Military Honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid, Missouri with Jonathan Vent, Glenn Harralston, Zip McKinney, Brad Tanner, Matt Lovelett, and Clint Tanner serving as Pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the Church on Saturday, prior to the service, from 10 A.M. (CST) until the funeral hour.
