Mr. Gary Charles Shaw, age 54, of Temple, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. He was born in Carrollton on August 16, 1972.
Gary was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. With his wonderful sense of humor, and larger-than-life personality, he had a way of bringing laughter and energy wherever he went. He loved life, but more than anything, Gary loved the people who shared that life with him. His family was his greatest source of pride and happiness, and the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and loved ones was precious to him.
His grandchildren held a particularly special place in his heart and lovingly called him “Paw.” He treasured every opportunity to spend time with them and took great pride in watching them grow. The memories they made together will remain a lasting part of his family's story.
A true outdoorsman at heart, Gary enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved being outside, playing horseshoes, swimming, and spending time around the pool. Whether he was enjoying a quiet afternoon with family, cutting up with friends, or simply soaking in a beautiful day, Gary knew how to enjoy the moment.
He was also a passionate sports fan. Gary faithfully followed the Atlanta Braves and proudly supported the University of Alabama Crimson Tide.
Gary spent many years working with Wayne Davis Concrete, but his years in law enforcement were an especially meaningful part of his life. He served with the Buchanan Police Department, where he earned the rank of Sergeant, and later served with the Whitesburg Police Department. Through his service in law enforcement, Gary dedicated himself to helping others and became a familiar and respected face within the communities he served. The friendships and connections he made during those years remained important to him.
Above all, Gary was a man who loved his family fiercely and lived life with his own unmistakable personality. He faced a long and difficult battle with courage and perseverance. Though his journey was not an easy one, Gary is now at peace.
He was preceded in death by his beloved dog, Molly, who was his faithful companion for 17 years. Gary leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Leslie Shaw of Temple; his children and their spouses, Ben and Jennifer Shaw of Bowdon, Jacob and Mary Caitlynn Shaw of Temple, and Jessica Shaw of Mt. Zion; his mother, Norma Carolyn (Dewberry) Shaw of Temple; his brother and sister-in-law, Jason and Ashley Shaw of Temple; his grandchildren, Carson Shaw, Haven Shaw, Harper Shaw, Emmie Grace Shaw, Olivia Williams, Zachary Brown, Lucas Brown, Kason Shaw, William Shaw, and Asher Shaw; along with numerous other relatives, friends, and loved ones.
In accordance with Gary’s wishes, he will be cremated. The family will hold a Celebration of Life tentatively next summer, as Gary requested, providing an opportunity for family and friends to come together and celebrate the life of a man who meant so much to so many.
