Homer Charles Barnwell, Jr.

Mr. Homer Charles Barnwell, Jr., age 77, of Temple, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on August 24, 1949, to the late Homer Charles Barnwell, Sr. and the late Edna (Scott) Barnwell. In addition to his parents, Mr. Barnwell was preceded in death by his sister, Patsy Lynn Barnwell, and his daughter-in-law, Kelly Barnwell.

Mr. Barnwell honorably served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University. He went on to work for the United States Postal Service as a Safety Specialist, retiring after 33 years of dedicated service.

Charles was a Christian by faith and a devoted member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. When his health allowed, he enjoyed teaching Sunday School and looked forward to being involved with Vacation Bible School each year. He was also a Master Mason and member of Draketown Lodge #252 F&AM. A true patriot and history buff, Charles was proud to be a member of the American Legion Carroll Post 143.

Charles had a wonderful sense of humor and a gift for teaching and investing in the lives of those he loved. Family was at the center of his life. He especially enjoyed entertaining his family on birthdays as “Homer T. Clown” and treasured his role as a beloved “Pawpaw” and “Granddad” to his grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Karen (Eaton) Barnwell of Temple; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Chuck and Bobbie Barnwell of Villa Rica, Zacharia and Kelly Barnwell of Carrollton, Billy and Nicole Barnwell of Jacksonville, Florida, Kenny and Nekai Barnwell of Nashville, Tennessee, and Geoff Eaton of Temple; two daughters and sons-in-law, Anne and David Rice of Douglasville and Jennifer and Matthew Patterson of Temple; and his brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Elaine Barnwell of Eatonton.

Mr. Barnwell is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 11 A.M. at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Baptist Church with Brad Horton officiating. Mr. Barnwell will lie in state at the Church on Friday, prior to the service, from 10 A.M. until the funeral hour.

Interment will follow in Meadowbrook Memory Gardens in Villa Rica with Jimmy Barnwell, Jake Barnwell, Caleb Vaughn, Blake Rice, Xavier Barnwell, Geoff Eaton serving as pallbearers. American Legion Carroll Post 143 will be providing military honors, and Masonic Last Rites will be provided by Draketown Lodge #252 F&AM.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M.
