Mr. Nolan Tarpley Cheek, age 84, of Temple passed away on Sunday, August 27, 2017. Mr. Cheek was born in Douglasville on Friday, September 9, 1932. He was the son of the late Allen Tarpley Cheek and the late Dollie (Jackson) Cheek. Besides his parents, Mr. Cheek is also preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Kay Cheek; one brother and three sisters, Otis Cheek, Ernestine Buice, Estell Thompson, and Dorothy Whitman.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Bearden) Cheek of Temple; one son, Dennis Nolan Cheek of Temple; one daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Reverend Robert Brown of Rome; one sister, Ellene Stanfill of Douglasville; six grandchildren, Rachel Christine Nackers and Kyle Nackers both of Washington, D.C., Robin Caroline Brown of Atlanta, Christopher Chase Cheek, Phillip Steven Cheek, and LeAnna Gail Cheek all of Temple as well as a number of other relatives.
Mr. Nolan Cheek served in the United States Army National Guard. He later owned and operated Alden Café, was a member of the Lions Club of Temple and a member of the Temple United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 2 P.M. from the Temple United Methodist Church with Reverend Larry Boswell, Reverend Robert Brown, and Reverend Marc Dwiggins officiating.
Private interment with Military Honors will follow in the Douglasville City Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Harry House, Chris Cheek, Phillip Cheek, Alan Whitman, Kip Stanfill, Clay Conaway, John Dufour, Barry Etheridge, and Jay Conaway.
Mr. Cheek will lie in state at the Church on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 from 12:30 P.M. until the funeral hour.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Temple United Methodist Church.
