Sue Tonnell Murphy

Susan "Sue" Tonnell Murphy, 69, of Villa Rica, Georgia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on August 21, 2026, at 11:10 p.m.

Born in Minnesota on January 20, 1957, to Robert and Jeanette Jensen, Sue grew up alongside her brother, Rand, in Bloomington, Minnesota. She graduated from Bloomington Lincoln High School in 1975. A dedicated and driven professional, Sue earned her undergraduate degree in Business Finance and later achieved her Master's Degree in Finance from St. Thomas University—all while raising her two daughters. She enjoyed a remarkable career spanning over 35 years with Northwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines, ultimately celebrating her well-earned retirement from Delta in 2021.

Sue was known for her outgoing, fun-loving spirit and her love of animals. A fiercely strong and independent woman who always knew how to have a good time, she found her greatest peace and joy in nature. An avid animal lover through and through, Sue cherished her horses and dogs, and loved camping and exploring new trails and campgrounds with them.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Leonard Murphy; her daughters, Cara Gauthier (husband John Gauthier, children Dylan Gauthier, Elliana Allard, Matthew Allard) and Molly Tonnell (husband Joe Tjaden); her mother, Jeanette Jensen; and her brother, Rand Jensen (wife Deb Jensen). She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Jensen.

The family will host a memorial service at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 3099 Chapel Hill Road, Douglasville, GA

A memorial service for Sue's Minnesota family and friends will be conducted at 10:00 AM (CST) on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 9201 Normandale Boulevard, Bloomington, Minnesota.  The family will gather and receive friends beginning at 9:00 AM and light refreshments and fellowship will follow the service.

A private family inurnment service will be conducted later that day at Dawn Valley Memorial Park in Bloomington, Minnesota.
