Thomas Lou Wilbanks, Sr., age 75 of Carrollton, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, he was the son of the late James Benson Wilbanks and the late Tommie Lou Wilbanks. In addition to his parents, Lou is preceded in death by his son, Kory Stephen Lewis, and his brother, Michael Wilbanks.
A graduate of Georgia State University with a Bachelor of Science degree, Lou spent many years in the medical field as a respiratory therapist. His specialized medical knowledge allowed him to work in many different medical positions and different states. Lou retired while working as a sleep study technician in Canton, Georgia. His interests outside of work included a love of all genres of music, time relaxing at the beach, and hours spent playing golf. Lou's fall Saturdays were always spent watching his beloved Georgia Bulldogs, win or lose.
He had an incredible sense of humor and was known for playing pranks on people. His jokes were legendary, and if he liked you, you definitely knew it. However, Lou's favorite role was being an incredible father and grandfather. He was the family provider and protector, as his family meant the world to him. Lou's fun loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 23 years, Freda Kay Wilbanks; his beloved sons, Thomas "Lou" Wilbanks, Jr. and Alan Scott Lewis; and his precious grandchildren, Logan Wilbanks and Maya Lewis. Also surviving are his nephew and wife, Michael & Holly Wilbanks; his great nephew, Michael Warren Wilbanks; his great niece, Katy Wilbanks; and numerous friends.
A celebration of life for Lou will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at Hutcheson-Croft Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Temple. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM.
Hutcheson-Croft Funeral Home & Cremation Service is honored to serve the Wilbanks family.
