Vinson Juliis Blackmon

February 3, 1942 — January 8, 2025

Mr. Vinson Juliis Blackmon, age 82, of Rockmart passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. He was born in Avon Park, Florida on February 3, 1942. Mr. Blackmon was the son of the late, J.D. “Flint “ Blackmon and the late, Willie Mae (Turner) Blackmon. In addition to his parents, Vinson is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Faye (Moore) Blackmon and by his brother, Dewey Lee Blackmon. 

Vinson lived a life dedicated to hard work, family, and service to his community. A skilled craftsman, Vinson spent many years building homes, a profession that brought him immense pride and joy. His commitment to quality and integrity in his work left an indelible mark on every project he touched. In March 1990, he began a new chapter of his career with the City of Powder Springs as a Building Inspector and Code Compliance Officer. He faithfully served the city until March 2001, when he transitioned solely to the role of Building Inspector. Vinson retired in October 2002, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and professionalism. Never one to rest, Vinson returned to school at West Georgia Technical College, where he earned his Commercial Driver's License (CDL). He then resumed his passion for building as a contractor until 2008, continuing to contribute to his community and share his talents. Vinson will be remembered for his steadfast work ethic, his ability to create lasting structures both in his profession and in his personal relationships, and his unwavering commitment to doing his best in all endeavors. His presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished by those who had the privilege to know him. 

He is survived by his family, friends, and the many individuals whose lives were enriched by his kindness and dedication. A celebration of Vinson's life will be held at a later date to honor his memory and the profound impact he had on those around him. Survivors include his two sons, Danny Blackmon of Rockmart and Jimmy Blackmon of Rockmart; his sister, Wanda Burnette of Blairsville; his grandchildren, Tracy Blackmon(daughter) He adopted as his own, Michele Blackmon, Daniel Blackmon, Justin Teal, Leaha Blackmon, Corey Blackmon; and 15 great grandchildren and a number of other relatives.
